Next month’s Kokua Kailua is scheduled for the same afternoon hours on Sunday, Feb. 19.

Another fine way to start off the new year right is the 2012 inaugural edition of Historic Kailua Village’s monthly Kokua Kailua Village Stroll from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday along scenic oceanfront Alii Drive. A section of the seaside drive in the heart of Kailua Village is transformed into a pedestrian-only thoroughfare full of fun activities.

“Kokua Kailua is an opportunity to spend a family friendly afternoon perusing the shops and restaurants in Historic Kailua Village, in addition to the many vendors that participate in the monthly event,” said a spokesman for the coordinating committee. “Then enjoy an ‘Afternoon at Hulihee Palace’ on the lawn beginning at 4 p.m.” Attendees are invited to bring their own lawn chairs for full enjoyment of the palace event.

The popular village stroll is sponsored by the Kailua Village Business Improvement District, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, Destination Kona Coast, Kailua Village Merchants Association, Hulihee Palace, West Hawaii Today and Pacific Radio Group.

The program is designed to rally support for merchants and restaurants and to remind residents “to shop, dine and buy local.”
